Main Purpose of Job

The Prevention and Health Promotion Administration's (PHPA) mission is to improve the health of Marylanders by reducing the transmission of infectious diseases, helping impacted persons live longer, healthier lives, and protecting individuals and communities from environmental health hazards. PHPA works in partnership with local health departments, providers, community based organizations, and public and private sector agencies to provide public health leadership in the prevention, control, monitoring, and treatment of infectious diseases and environmental health hazards. The mission of the Center for TB Control and Infection is to control the spread of tuberculosis in Maryland, prevent new infections, and increase access of persons diagnosed with tuberculosis to care and treatment. The purpose of this position is to monitor and assist local health department TB prevention and control programs in ensuring appropriate local TB program management of tuberculosis (TB) in Maryland through clinical and programmatic consultation to local health department TB and communicable disease staff, private health care providers and the general public on appropriate TB case management, contact tracing and management of high-risk populations; the design and provision of TB professional and general public educational programs; participation in statewide TB program evaluation activities; and collaboration with other state and national agencies and programs as a representative of the Maryland CTBCP and PHPA.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Master’s degree in Nursing or a health-related field from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Five years of experiences as a Registered Nurse including one year of experience in an administrative, supervisory, consultative or teaching capacity.

Notes:

1. A Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or health-related field from an accredited college or university and two years of experience as a Registered Nurse in an administrative, supervisory, consultative or teaching capacity may be substituted for the required education.

2. A PhD in Nursing from an accredited college or university may be substituted for two years of the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher as a commissioned officer in Nursing classification or Nursing specialty codes in the Nursing field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education. 

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The successful applicant should have knowledge of and some experience in nursing case management. Experience in planning and coordinating education and training programs is preferred. Successful candidate must be highly motivated and independent with excellent interpersonal skills. This position interacts with individuals at CDC and other national organizations, representing DHMH and CTBCP. Knowledge and experience working with TB patients is desirable, but not required.  Must have reliable transportation. Must be able to assume DHMH 'on call' responsibilities as required.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1.Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as a Registered Nurse from the Maryland State Board of Nursing, 4140 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215.  A copy of your current license or license verification must accompany your application.

2.Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
