Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to learn to assist patients/clients performing tasks in a specific pre-vocational work setting such as horticulture, woodwork, housekeeping, sheltered workshop or linen services to ensure that activities are consistent with the individual treatment plan; attend in-service training programs to maintain awareness of current pre-vocational principles and practices pertaining to patients/clients; observe patients/clients participation during work adjustment activities and learn to document observations in behavioral terms; learn to monitor production for compliance with contract quotas and schedules; learn to provide training and demonstration of proper techniques to patients/ clients performing work adjustment tasks; learn to assist in assessing the vocational capabilities and limitations of patients/clients in order to determine their interests, aptitudes, abilities and work histories through review of records and personal interviews; learn to place the patient/client in the appropriate work setting within an existing program in accordance with the patient/client assessment, the Individual Treatment Plan and pre-vocational program guidelines; learn to review workshop contracts and rates of compensation as directed by the supervisor; learn techniques to motivate patients/clients to achieve their optimum level of pre-vocational development through established means such as group activity and the accomplishment of individual goals; learn to document the progress of patients/clients in accordance with established procedures in an articulate and comprehensive manner; and perform other related duties.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:    Completion of 60 credits from an accredited college or university with at least 15 credits in health services, human services, education or the behavioral sciences.

Experience:  None.

NOTE:

Applicants may substitute two years of experience providing work placement, work training and work adjustment services to mentally ill patients or developmentally disabled clients in a pre-vocational development program for the required college credits.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1.  Persons appointed to positions in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

2.  Employees in some positions may be required to operate vehicles which require a Class C motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland. The appropriate motor vehicle operator’s license will be required.

3.  Persons appointed to positions in this classification may be required to successfully complete and maintain current certification of cardiopulmonary resuscitation training.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this classification may be subject to call-in and, therefore, may be required to provide the facility with a phone number where they can be reached.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who works for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program (the Program), have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents.  As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
