POSITION DUTIES

The Comptroller of Maryland is currently seeking an IT Project Coordinator to support our Information Technology Division (ITD). The Project Coordinator will work in our Program Management Office and act as our Master Project Scheduler, develop project documentation and define processes to improve efficiency. If you have strong MS Project Professional experience, excellent attention to detail, and ability to effectively communicate with all levels of team members, join our team and help us to provide the best systems and solutions for our customer. The successful candidate will use Microsoft Project Professional Server and be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining detailed resource-loaded schedules and ensure schedules are kept current; establishing milestones and monitoring adherence to master schedules to identify program problems and recommend solutions; defining and implementing schedule configuration management processes and procedures; and working closely with ITD staff to develop project documentation and define processes to improve efficiency.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Computer Science or other information technology related field to include course work in systems analysis and applications programming using generally accepted computer programming languages or in operating systems and data communications technology.

Experience: One year of experience designing, developing, testing, implementing and maintaining applications systems and programs using generally accepted computer programming languages or maintaining and modifying operating systems for computers.  

NOTES:

  1. Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate and thirty credit hours from an accredited college or university in Computer Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Computer Science or other information technology related field to include course work in systems analysis and applications programming using generally accepted computer programming languages or in operating systems and data communications technology may be substituted for the required education.
  2. Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate and one additional year of experience designing, developing, testing, implementing and maintaining applications systems and programs using generally accepted computer programming languages or maintaining and modifying operating systems for computers may be substituted for the required education. 
  3. Experience operating computer systems; or scheduling, controlling input and output or maintaining a tape library to process data on computer systems; or evaluating, implementing and maintaining microcomputer hardware and software; or converting data from project specifications by developing program code using generally accepted computer programming languages may be substituted for high school education on a year-for-year basis. 
  4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Cyber and Information Systems classifications or Cyber and Information Systems specialty codes in the Information Technology field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required education and experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university is desired. 
  • Advanced level experience and proficiency in MS Project Professional, MS Project Server, MS Excel and/or other similar desktop tools that provide capabilities to collect and analyze schedule information.
  • Certification(s) related to project management and/or project scheduling.
  • Exceptional ability to establish an initial baseline an track progress against the baseline,
  • Ability to integrate change requests in to the schedule.

EXAMINATION PROCESS

Only applicants who meet the minimum and selective qualifications for this recruitment will be considered for this opportunity. The examination will consist of a rating of your education, training and experience. Due to the nature of this list, all qualified applicants are placed on an unranked list of candidates and will remain active on this list for at least one year. 

Qualifying applicants are subject to an oral interview. Prior to appointment, the employee must successfully undergo a comprehensive background investigation including a review of criminal, MVA and tax records; and determination of legal authorization to work in the United States or under the United States Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986. Upon initial appointment OR promotion to a position in the State Personnel Management System, an employee is required to serve an initial six month probationary period. This probationary period may be extended an additional six months under certain circumstances at the discretion of the appointing authority.
