Main Purpose of Job

The position will provide direct social services to customers in the Foster Care unit. The position provides clinical and case management services for children in out of home placements, for their families, and for other caregivers in order to provide safe and permanent placements for the children including adoption as mandated by the Code of Maryland.

 

POSITION DUTIES

The position assesses safety & needs of household members to determine risk of maltreatment and areas for service provision by interviewing and discussing with family members and by utilizing collateral contacts in compliance with State & Federal guidelines.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Please describe in detail any job duties relating to the minimum qualifications stated and include any computer software experience used in each of the positions you held.

EDUCATION:  A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited College or University in an appropriate behavioral science, such as: child development, sociology, social work, psychology, counseling, nursing, criminology, juvenile justice, human growth and development, human services, mental health or human resources management that includes at least 30 credit hours in human services or human development.

EXPERIENCE:  None

NOTE: These requirements are established by the Social Services Administration by authority provided in Human Services Article Title 4, Subtitle 2 Section (c) (1) of the Annotated Code of Maryland. The Department of Budget and Management, Office of Personnel Services and Benefits does not have the authority to accept substitutions or equivalents.

LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION

Limited to current employees of the Caroline County Department of Social Services.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties that require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Candidates must complete an approved training program and pass a competency test prior to permanent appointment.

2.Employees are required to meet mandatory standards for continuing education as determined by the Department of Human Resources. Employees who fail to obtain the required continuing education credits shall be subject to disciplinary action including demotion, suspension and dismissal.

3. Employees in this classification may be subject to on-call duty and may be required to provide telephone numbers at which they can be reached.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
