Main Purpose of Job

This position supports the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency by supervising the operation of the Lanham Claim office. This position is responsible for processing lottery winner claims and disbursing prizes to its customers. The incumbent also supervises and conducts the W2G (Tax Form) process ensuring that the forms have been received and accurately completed in accordance to established policies and procedures.

POSITION DUTIES

  • Supervising staff employees and operational procedures.  
  • Processing winner claims for lottery customers.
  • Reconciling and processing reports received from lottery retailer locations.
  • Providing excellent customer service to patrons.
  • Auditing processed claims to ensure compliance with established laws and regulations.
  • Conducting investigations regarding winner claims when warranted.
  • This position will be based out of the Maryland State Lottery - Lanham Office located at 4451 Parliament Place Lanham, MD 20706 and will report to the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency headquarters in Baltimore city when necessary.
  • Employees in this position are deemed essential employees and must report for work or remain at work during declared state of emergency conditions to support continued lottery and casino operations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Three years of experience reconciling agency accounting systems to fiscal control systems or developing automated spreadsheets, ledgers and reports using accounting software packages or identifying budget trends and recommending budget realignments.

Note:

1. Experience calculating and recording financial, statistical or other numerical data may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required high school education.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience in Financial Clerical/Finance Technicians classifications or specialty codes in the financial field of work at a rate of one year of military experience for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Prior experience in customer service.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
