Main Purpose of Job

This position functions as a Board-certified child Psychiatrist in the area of the Maryland Medicaid Pharmacy Program, and is responsible for providing clinical consultation and/or recommendations to medical, administrative, and supervisory staff within the Medicaid Pharmacy Program. In addition to clinical and administrative support, this position will: Facilitate the development, implementation, oversight, and evaluation of guidelines, policies and clinical criteria as it relates to mental health drugs; provide specialized clinical support and consultation to prescribers of Medicaid patients as it relates to utilization of mental health drugs; review and evaluate reports on use of mental health drugs by Medicaid patients, and analyze prescribing trends; manage and monitor a contractor who provides peer-to-peer review call center services to Medicaid prescribers, as well as, retrospective antipsychotic prescription reviews; and, evaluates and implements State and Federal guidelines and regulations as they relate to mental health pharmaceuticals for Medicaid recipients.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Possession of a degree in Medicine from an accredited college or university.

Experience: As required for certification in an area of medical specialization by an American Medical Association Specialty Board.

Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Medical Corpsman and Physicians classifications or Nursing or Physician and Medical Services and Special Corpsman Officer specialty codes in the medicine field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates must be certified in Child Psychiatry.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Applicants must be certified by an American Medical Association Specialty Board in an area of medical specialization.

2. Applicants must be licensed by the Maryland Board of Physicians to practice medicine under Maryland State Law. A copy of the current license must be attached to the application.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
