Main Purpose of Job

This position is responsible for providing overall psychiatric services for the adult Behavioral Health Clinic programs.  This position's primary responsibility is to diagnose and treat mental health conditions in children and adolescents.  This position ensures delivery of high quality, safe and appropriate psychiatric care, prescribes appropriate medications with correct dosage, counsels and provides necessary treatment, and meets with staff for regular consultation regarding co-occurring patent's progress in treatment.  The incumbent should be able to develop treatment plans which may include psychoanalysis, psychotherapy, hospitalization and medication. The incumbent should also be able to diagnose and treat anxiety, attention deficit disorder and eating disorders.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Possession of a degree in medicine from an accredited college or university.

Experience: As required for certification in an area of medical specialization by an American Medical Association Specialty Board.

Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Medical Corpsman and Physicians classifications or Nursing or Physician and Medical Services and Special Corpsman Officer specialty codes in the medicine field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates must be Board certified in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.  A copy of your certification should accompany your application.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates should have training and experience in diagnosing mental illness and emotional problems in children and adolescents. Candidates should be able to develop treatment plans which may include psychoanalysis, psychotherapy, hospitalization and medication. Candidates should also be able to diagnose and treat anxiety, attention deficit disorder and eating disorders.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Applicants must be certified by an American Medical Association Specialty Board in an area of medical specialization.  A copy of your current certification must be attached to the application.

2. Applicants must be licensed by the Maryland Board of Physicians to practice medicine under Maryland State Law. A copy of the current license must be attached to the application.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
