Main Purpose of Job

This position is responsible for providing overall psychiatric services for the adult Behavioral Health Clinic programs.  The primary responsibility of this position is diagnosing and treating mental health conditions.  This position coordinates medical care with patients and community health care providers.  It prescribes methadone, buprenorphine and other appropriate medications for the diagnosis and treatment of opioid dependent patients.  This position oversees and ensures delivery of high quality, safe and appropriate medical care to patients.  It ensures completion and/or conducts medical, mental health and substance abuse history and physical examinations.  This position provides training and supervision of Physicians and staff and designs and implements performance improvement initiatives.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Possession of a degree in medicine from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Five years of experience in the practice of medicine.

Notes:

1. A master’s degree in public health from an accredited college or university may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

 2. Internships and residencies are considered as qualifying medical experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Medical Corpsman and Physicians classifications or Nursing or Physician and Medical Services and Special Corpsman Officer specialty codes in the medicine field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

A certification by an American Medical Association Specialty Board in Psychiatry is required.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates should have training and experience in chemical dependency/addictions medicine, experience in managed care, ambulatory behavioral health, induction & methadone maintenance, psychiatric medication management, training of supervision of physicians and staff, and design and implementation of performance improvement initiatives. 

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Applicants must be licensed by the Maryland Board of Physicians to practice medicine under Maryland State Law. A copy of the current license must be attached to the application.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
