INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT REPRESENTATIVE (SPECIAL APPOINTMENT)

The Maryland Department of Commerce is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Senior Business Development Representative within its Division of Business & Industry Sector Development’s Regional Growth, Business Retention, Expansion and Strategic Rural Development Unit.  Incumbent will represent Montgomery County.

This position is primarily responsible for attracting businesses, assisting with retention, relocation, and expansion needs and opportunities within the State of Maryland focusing on Montgomery County in the Capital Region. The incumbent will actively market and promote the region’s unique assets providing economic development assistance to businesses, Counties, or economic development organizations.

Individual will be providing financial, regulatory and technical assistance to businesses in cooperation with the county government; providing consultative services to businesses as to availability of financing; and providing site location assistance to new and expanding businesses.  Other duties include assisting in the development of regional strategic economic development plans; and working closely with and maintaining relationships with high level public and private sector officials, county economic development officials, local elected officials, economic development directors, State and Federal agencies, businesses and lending institutions.  The selected candidate will possess good interpersonal and written and oral communication skills and the ability to handle multiple, concurrent and high priority projects. 

Some statewide travel is required.

Education: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Business, Real Estate/Land Use, or a related field ,and

Experience: Six (6) years of recent professional experience in industrial, business or economic development, marketing, commercial real estate, or related field.  

Equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable.

Local economic and business development experience in Montgomery County is highly desirable.

Proven skills in economic development projects.

Demonstrated sales experience preferred.

Preference will be given to candidates possessing the designation Certified Economic Developer by the International Economic Development Council.

Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite for Windows including Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint, Google Mail and/or other relevant software.
