Main Purpose of Job

This position will be handling a variety of special projects for the Secretary of the Maryland Department of Aging.

POSITION DUTIES

Manages a variety of functions or special projects for the Department, specifically the Secretary. Works in conjunction with MDoA's senior team to pursue and achieve a variety of initiatives as determined by the Secretary. Provides advice and support to the Secretary regarding policy, managerial and organizational issues and program development including monitoring and evaluation. Lead selected program based special projects that require cross-functional engagement with key staff across the organization, and with external stakeholders, as appropriate. May provide project coordination support by compiling information from multiple sources, tracking timelines, progress of action plans and items, coordinating resources and materials, and updating project databases. May draft internal and external written correspondence, as well as, edit memos, proposals, reports, and other documents. May serve as liaison between internal and external customers/constituents while maintaining confidentiality of information and records in verbal forms of communication. May perform administrative tasks which may include scheduling and maintaining calendar, organizing and prioritizing workload, maintaining files, processing standard forms. Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:  Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution

Experience:  Three to five years of full-time relevant work experience in an office environment. 

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1.  Three to five years of experience in project coordination.

2.  Strong organizational skills and demonstrated capacity to develop and implement practical strategies, plans, and solutions to identified issues and problems.

3.  Good judgment, discretion, tact and the ability to work easily with senior leaders within government, charitable and business sectors.

4.  Ability to partner well with colleagues both in and outside of the organization.

5.  Ability to work independently and to undertake supervisory responsibilities as needed.

6.  Strong written and oral communication skills.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle.  Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
