Introduction
This recruitment is for the position of Deputy Chief of the Client & Community Services Division at the Maryland Department of Aging.
This is a management service position that will serve at the pleasure of the appointing authority.

LOCATION OF POSITION
Main Purpose of Job
This position is responsible for oversight of a variety of federal and state funded programs and supervision of multiple direct reports for a unit within the Client and Community Services Division. These programs have a primary focus on areas that may include: health insurance education, counseling and assistance, in-home gap filling services and housing options that support independent community living.
POSITION DUTIES
Program Management - Directs and coordinates activities of a wide variety of federal and state programs which support independent community living for older adults. Develops policies and procedures for these programs, ensuring compliance with existing statutes, regulations, and policies, overseeing implementation of and recommends revisions. Ensures Monitoring local programs and ensuring all deficiencies are addressed promptly.
Personnel and Fiscal Management - Oversees and manages the personnel and financial resources of these programs. Plans, coordinates, supervises and evaluates the work of subordinates.
Partnership Development and System Advocacy - Develops relationships with federal, state, and local partners, governmental agencies, and advocates enhancing policies and resources. Represents the department in a liaison capacity with managers and officials of other agencies concerning program activities.
This position requires strong organization skills and the ability to multi-task and work well under pressure.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Gerontology, Social Work, Health Policy or another aging/health related field.
Experience: Five years of progressively responsible experience in program administration, grants management and policy development.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
A Masters Degree in Gerontology, Social Work, Health Policy and/or another aging/health related field.
Two years experience in the following:
-Working knowledge of federal and state policies and regulations governing aging programs.
-Demonstrated ability to manage grants.
-Demonstrated ability to supervise others.
Excellent written and oral communication skills are also required.
