The Maryland Department of Commerce is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Director of Recruitment and Location Services within its Division of Business and Industry Sector Development’s Recruitment and Business Location Services Unit.

Main Purpose of Job

This position primarily functions as the state's lead sales representative to attract new and relocating companies to facilitate jobs for Maryland's workforce and create new revenue.

POSITION DUTIES

This position serves as agency point person to attract the new FBI Headquarters to Maryland; responsibilities include:  managing the agency’s portion of the attraction process for the FBI Headquarters site selection, requests for information, and serving as the agency's representative through the construction process. This position manages the agency team that attracts businesses to Maryland through direct sales to targeted end-users and is directly responsible for the state’s business attraction and relocation efforts.  Duties include: identifying, targeting and developing the direct sales effort to individual businesses and consultants with the goal of inducing a Maryland location; planning and executing corporate calling missions; managing  logistics of official company tours to the state; and working closely with county and local economic development officials to help meet community economic development goals.  Individuals will work closely with and maintain relationships with high level public and private sector officials, county economic development officials, local elected officials, economic development directors, businesses, and State and Federal agencies.   The selected employee will possess good interpersonal and written and oral communication skills and the ability to handle multiple, concurrent and high priority projects.  Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite for Windows including Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint, Google Mail and/or other relevant software.  Statewide and national travel is required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Real Estate/Land Use, or a related field and 8 years of increasingly responsible professional experience in industrial, business or economic development, commercial real estate, or related field.

Equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable. 

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Qualifications: Minimum 3-5 years supervisory experience. Demonstrated sales experience.   Preference will be given to candidates possessing an advanced related degree.
