Main Purpose of Job

This position is responsible for the overall direction and operation of the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commissions' Public Safety Education and Training Center. This involves oversight of all employees assigned to the Center, as well as the operation and maintenance of the facility. It includes responsibility for certifications, entry level training, supervisory training, and specialized training for public safety personnel. It also is responsible for the oversight of the Maryland Community Crime Prevention Institute. The position works closely with the Executive Directors of the Correctional Training Commission and Police Training and Standards Commission to assist with implementing the work of both Commissions.

POSITION DUTIES

Some of the duties of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordinating with the Executive Directors of the Correctional Training Commission and Police Training and Standards Commission
  • Consulting with public safety leaders and organizations throughout Maryland in order to ensure training needs are identified and met
  • Consult with DPSCS leadership to ensure that staffing, budgetary and other administrative needs are met

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Management, Business Administration, Education, Higher Education or a related field.  

Experience: Eight years of experience supervising professional staff responsible for assessing; developing; research and planning; designing and coordinating large-scale collaborative trainings and projects; and complex research studies, in a law enforcement or correctional training program.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

Seven years of supervisory experience must include assigning tasks to staff, setting priorities, reviewing work products and evaluating performance.

Seven years of demonstrated experience interacting with Senior Executive Officers through line staff to communicate concepts, skills, and objectives for projects and long-term strategies.

EXAMINATION PROCESS

All persons who meet the minimum qualifications will be approved on the certification list and will be placed on the employment (eligible) list for at least one year.
