Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to provide psychological services to inmates housed at Patuxent Institution. Duties include, but are not limited too: Functions as part of a treatment team that regularly provides services to the inmate population; Alternatively, may function as a “floater” between treatment teams; Provides psychotherapeutic services to inmates as assigned; Conducts psychological evaluations of inmates as assigned; Participates in miscellaneous projects and tasks as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Possession of a doctoral degree in psychology or a related field from an accredited college or university acceptable to the Maryland Board of Examiners of Psychologists.

Note:

1. A twelve month internship required for the doctoral degree may be substituted for one year of general experience.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Clinical Psychology classifications or Psychology specialty codes in the Psychology field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Candidates must be licensed by the Maryland Board of Examiners of Psychologists prior to permanent appointment to a position in State service. Applicants who do not have a license may also apply pending receipt of the required license. When the license has been obtained, submit a copy of the license to the Department of Budget and Management to remove pending status. 

EXAMINATION PROCESS

The examination will consist of a rating of your education, training, and experience as presented on your application and as they relate to the requirements of the position. Therefore, it is important that you provide complete and accurate information on your application. Successful candidates will be ranked as Best Qualified, Better Qualified, or Qualified and placed on the employment (eligible) list for at least one year.
