Introduction

The Office of the State Prosecutor is seeking an Investigator/Analyst to assist the office with the investigation and prosecution of criminal activities related to public corruption within the State of Maryland. This position will provide support for attorneys in the investigation and prosecution of various offenses including bribery, extortion, tax evasion, theft and campaign finance violations.

Main Purpose of Job

This position conducts comprehensive criminal investigations into allegations of 1) State election law violations; 2) State public ethics law violations; 3) State bribery law violations involving public officials or employees; 4) misconduct in office by public officials or employees; and 5) extortion, perjury, or obstruction of justice related to any of the above. This position reports directly to the Chief Investigator. This position is responsible for conducting interviews of suspects, witnesses, victims and other relevant parties including but not limited to members of law-enforcement and other State Agencies. This position is responsible for submitting comprehensive Reports of Interviews and Memorandums to the Chief Investigator for subsequent review by prosecutorial staff. This position also participates in discussions to develop Investigative Action Plans in furtherance of the investigation to include investigative methods, use of resources, and adherence with laws, policies and standard operating procedures. This position provides assistance to Prosecutorial staff with trial preparation, research, analysis and any other duties deemed necessary to complete an investigation.

POSITION DUTIES

Responsibilities will include the seizure and analysis of criminal evidence, interview and interrogation of witnesses, victims and suspects, as well as assisting prosecutors with trial preparation and testifying before grand jury and in criminal trials.   Additionally, the successful candidate should have the ability to work cooperatively within a prosecutor-directed investigative team consisting of both attorneys and investigator/analysts is essential.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum educational requirement is a Bachelors Degree in accounting or in criminal justice with an emphasis in accounting or investigations and evidence analysis.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Masters Degree in forensics with an emphasis on accounting or criminal investigations and analysis.
