Main Purpose of Job

The Thomas B. Finan Center is seeking a Psychiatrist to work 40 hours per week in modern JCAHO Accredited State Psychiatric Hospital, located in the beautiful mountains of Western Maryland.  This position would serve as a unit physician for a 22-bed adult unit.  This position would also serve as the leader of a multi-disciplinary treatment team including psychologists, social workers, occupational therapists and nurses.  Position requires minimal contact with Managed Care Providers.  This is a contractual position paying $120 per hour with the availability of health benefits and 401K plans.  Additional income is available by working on-duty (evenings, nights and weekends) coverage if interested. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Possession of a degree in medicine from an accredited college or university.

Experience: As required for certification in an area of medical specialization by an American Medical Association Specialty Board.

Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Medical Corpsman and Physicians classifications or Nursing or Physician and Medical Services and Special Corpsman Officer specialty codes in the medicine field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

This position requires board certification in psychiatry.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Applicants must be certified by an American Medical Association Specialty Board in an area of medical specialization.

2. Applicants must be licensed by the Maryland Board of Physicians to practice medicine under Maryland State Law. A copy of the current license must be attached to the application.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.

The evaluation may be a rating of your application based on your education, training and experience as they relate to the requirements of the position. For education obtained outside the U.S., a copy of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service must accompany the application. BENEFITS

Contractual employees who works for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program (the Program), have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents.  As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
