Maryland Public Television is a leader in the production of broadcast programming for public television. MPT's local/regional television credits include public affairs, original performance, entertainment and documentary programs for the citizens of Maryland.

Main Purpose of Job

Maintain the facilities for the safe and efficient operation of Maryland Public Television. This position performs moderately complex tasks in maintenance work, including routine construction work, making minor repairs or improvements to buildings, fixtures, mechanical equipment, grounds and roadways. This position also assists with other duties such as snow removal, set-ups for meetings and events, moving offices, repairing sets and other duties as assigned. Must be willing to work occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays.

POSITION DUTIES

  • Assist the Facilities Maintenance Mechanic, Electrician and the Facilities and Maintenance Technician with their daily work load.
  • Performs daily rounds and building inspections and makes note of areas needing repairs or improvements.
  • Makes repairs to any problem within the facilities such as: doors, locks, ceilings, drinking fountains, water closets, lavatories, sinks, desks, file cabinets or any and all hazardous or safety issues.
  • Repairs and paints walls, replaces lights and all other duties affiliated with maintaining Maryland Public Television's campus.
  • Works with other facilities staff to complete a variety of work orders and to handle all types of facility maintenance requests such as moving furniture.
  • Helps keep the campus clean of excess equipment/trash, grounds-clean up, and snow removal.
  • Helps with set-ups for meetings and events and other duties as assigned.
  • Assists with maintaining power equipment such as lawn movers, snow removal equipment, leaf blowers and helps keep track of inventory which includes supplies and equipment.
  • Occasional evening, weekend and holiday hours.
  • In the winter months this position will be subject to cold, snow and icy conditions. In the summer months this position will be subject to heat and humidity. 
  • It may be required to work in dirty and greasy areas.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: At least one (1) year experience assisting with carpentry, plumbing, and/or electrical work with the use of tools and machinery associated with the performance of all internal and external facilities maintenance.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees appointed to positions in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this classification may be subject to call-in 24 hours a day and, therefore, may be required to provide the employing agency with a telephone number where they can be reached. Must have the physical capabilities to lift at least 50lbs.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who works for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program (the Program), have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents.  As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
