Introduction

Maryland Public Television, which is commonly known by its familiar name "MPT", is a public television network that comprises six television stations that broadcast throughout the entire state of Maryland as well as into the District of Columbia and parts of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia. MPT is the only state-wide broadcaster in Maryland. MPT is a member of the Public Broadcasting Service.

Main Purpose of Job

This position provides research data, content marketing strategies and planning and support activities for MotorWeek, MPT's national automotive television series.

This position requires the incumbent to work at least 20 hours per week, with additional hours during special events and peak news cycles.

POSITION DUTIES

  • Manage publicity for annual MotorWeek Drivers' Choice Awards and coordinate logistics for award ceremony and trophy presentations annually at the Chicago Auto Show;
  • Finding and creating newsworthy subject matter for MotorWeek and other projects as assigned on a regular basis;
  • Contributes content to digital (web, mobile) and social media communication platforms;
  • Drafting press releases;
  • Maintain a national press list;
  • Distribute and support each release using internal lists and outside vendors;
  • National media pitching for show talent and show material;
  • Selecting, contracting and supporting public relations firms and related photographers and/or videographers;
  • Coordinating all parties, including producers, MPT local communications officials, events coordinators and satellite partners (such as PBS, PT and NETA);
  • Handling special promotions and sweepstakes;
  • Budget planning and oversight;
  • Tracking and analyzing results of each press announcement;
  • Creating plans and refreshing written plans on an ongoing basis;
  • Strong communications and writing skills with the ability to interface and maintain successful working relationships with staff, media, agencies and vendors.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing or a related discipline.

Experience: Three (3) years experience in communications and/or public relations field with experience representing a consumer or media brand.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who works for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program (the Program), have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents.  As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
