Introduction

Main Purpose of Job

School psychologists assist students at all levels, from early childhood education to high school.  This position will act along with school counselors as advocates for students' well-being, and as valuable resources for their educational and personal advancement.  The school psychologist will provide services such as psychoeducational assessments, individual and group counseling, and crisis intervention support to students on both a recurring and as needed basis.

POSITION DUTIES

The school psychologist is responsible for providing direct clinical services and assessments to current students as well as providing psychoeducational assessments for new students seeking admission to MSD.  This position will also attend student IEP meetings to explain assessment results to team members.  The school psychologist may supervise and evaluate staff and/or trainees and will work collaboratively with the school psychologist at the Columbia Campus.  This position serves on the Frederick Campus Administrative Team (FCAT), the Admissions Review Team (ART) as well as being a member of the Research Committee.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A Master’s Degree in School Psychology or related field is required.

Maryland State Department of Education School Psychologist Certificate required (or the ability to obtain in a specific time).

Experience working with students with special needs desired.

LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION

Must be proficient in American Sign Language and written English.  Knowledge of Deaf community required.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

New hires are subject to a criminal background investigation at their own expense (Maryland Code, Family Law Article 1, Sections 5-560 – 5-568)
