THIS IS A STATEWIDE RECRUITMENT FOR THE MARYLAND STATE POLICE FACILITIES MANAGEMENT DIVISION, MAINTENANCE MECHANIC SENIOR. Main Purpose of Job

Support the maintenance and repair of Maryland State Police property by performing repairs, tracking repair requests, purchase orders and invoices.

POSITION DUTIES

The candidate performs skilled work in the maintenance, repair, restoration of buildings, offices and other facilities. The position repairs doors, hardware and locks. The position also performs bench carpentry using shop equipment and power tools such as drills, saws, sanders, planers, air nailers, routers and radial arm saws. The candidate performs dry-wall work and assembles, installs and repairs water pipes, fittings, fixtures and heating and drainage systems. The candidate maintains and performs minor repairs to lawn maintenance equipment and operates a state owned snow blower and pickup truck, equipped with a snow plow, to assist with snow removal.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of the eighth grade.

Experience: Four years of experience in any combination of the maintenance trades of which three years shall have been in the trades of electricity, plumbing, steam fitting, refrigeration or air conditioning.

Notes:

1. Applicants may substitute additional experience in any of the maintenance trades on a year-for-year basis for up to three years of the required education.

2. A degree from an accredited vocational or technical high school with a major in Building Maintenance or a related field may be substituted for up to three years of the required general experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher as a non-commissioned officer in utilities repair classifications or construction and engineering specialty codes in any combination of maintenance trades on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

 

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Candidates will be subject to an initial drug screen and a complete background investigation to include a polygraph investigation before appointment can be made. A criminal conviction may be grounds for rejection of the candidate. Employees in this classification will be required to provide a telephone number where they can be reached.

SELECTION PROCESS

Only candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will be considered for this classification. Therefore it is essential that you provide complete and accurate information on your application. Successful candidates will be placed on the employment Eligible List categorized as BEST QUALIFIED, BETTER QUALIFIED and QUALIFIED and remain eligible for consideration for at least one year from the date of examination. The list will be used by the hiring manager to select employees.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
