Main Purpose of Job

The Psychologist II provides a full spectrum of psychological services in a day treatment program. These services include psychological evaluation updates, and consultation for the entire program. A team psychologist also provides clinical case management, direct individual, group and family therapy, and clinical advice and support to a caseload of approximately 9 emotionally disabled adolescents. This position requires someone who demonstrates specific expertise in understanding the symptoms and treatments for clients with diagnoses which are typically seen in emotionally disturbed adolescents. This position requires someone who can work effectively with a treatment team made up of nursing/residential, educational and rehabilitation staff as well as social workers, psychologist and psychiatrists to provide treatment that is family driven and youth guided. The incumbent of this position must also be able to generate the extensive documentation such as treatment plans, progress notes and reports required in a contemporary mental health context.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Determined by the Maryland State Board of Examiners of Psychologists under the licensing requirements for Psychologists.

Experience: Two years of experience rendering psychological services or engaged in psychological research after receipt of the License as a Psychologist.

Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Clinical Psychology classifications or Psychology specialty codes in the Psychology field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates must be licensed as a Psychologist by the Maryland Board of Examiners of Psychologists prior to permanent appointment to a position in State service. Applicants who do not have a Maryland license may also apply pending receipt of the required license. When the license has been obtained, submit a copy of the license to the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene Testing Unit to remove pending status.  A copy of your current license or license verification should accompany your application.

2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties that require operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
