Main Purpose of Job

This is an important position in the Board's Compliance Unit. The main purpose of the Health Occupations Investigator (HOI) is to assist the Pharmacist Compliance Officer (PCO) in the investigation of alleged misconduct of pharmacy businesses and professional pharmacists. This position will perform investigations of complaints received by the Board regarding the operation of pharmacies and the performance of licenses and/or registered pharmacy personnel. This position, under the supervision of the Boards' Pharmacist Compliance Officer, will: gather information from complainants, witnesses and conduct on-site investigations; obtain signed statement when warranted; prepare subpoenas for obtaining physical or documentary evidence; and work with Board members, Board Counsel, Executive Director and Compliance Officer in developing cases and performing technical tasks. This position summarizes complaints received by the Board and obtains information/evidence needed in the investigation.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of 60 credits from an accredited college or university to include 15 credits in criminal justice, law enforcement, criminology or a health field.

Experience: One year of experience conducting criminal investigations including the preparation of analyses and reports for use in legal proceedings.

Note: 1. Additional experience as defined above may be substituted on a year-for year basis for the required education.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Investigator, Police and Intelligence Specialist classifications or Investigator, Police and Intelligence specialty codes in the criminal investigation field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.
 

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The preferred candidate will have:

-Experience conducting investigations within the Board of Pharmacy.

-Current Board of Pharmacy Employee

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in these classes may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees in these classes may be required to have daily use of a motor vehicle while on official State business. Standard mileage allowance will be paid for use of a privately owned vehicle.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
