Main Purpose of Job

The mission of the Prevention and Health Promotion Administration is to protect, promote and improve the health and well-being of all Marylanders and their families through provision of public health leadership and through community-based public health efforts in partnership with local health departments, providers, community based organizations, and public and private sector agencies, giving special attention to at-risk and vulnerable populations. The mission of the Center for Sexually Transmitted Infections Prevention (CSTIP) is to reduce and prevent sexually transmitted infections in Maryland. This position provides administrative and surveillance support for the Center for Sexually Transmitted Infection Prevention. Administrative support for several CSTIP supervisory staff includes formulation of documents, reports, and presentations. This position servers as Web Content Manager. This position also has budgetary responsibilities include preparing annual budget award letters and tracking for categorical STI awards to local health departments, tracking operating expenses, preparing correspondence and maintaining county-based files. This position provides surveillance support and includes assessment and processing of several hundred lab reports per week and provides case-specific review and recommendations as back-up for the Syphilis Reactor Desk.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Three years performing secretarial or clerical work involving typing duties.

Notes: 

1. Additional secretarial or clerical experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

 2. Thirty credit hours with a major in secretarial science or office technology from an accredited college may be substituted at the rate of thirty credits for one year of experience for up to two years of the required experience.  If applicable, a copy of your transcripts must accompany your application. 

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Administration classifications or Administrative, Clerical, or Office Services specialty codes in the Administrative Support field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.  

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The preferred candidate will have experience with creating and managing social media communications (Facebook, Twitter, blogs, newsletters, etc.).  Candidates should have extensive familiarity with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) and Google products (Gmail, calendar, Google docs, etc.); Microsoft Excel skills that are at least at the intermediate level (ability to develop formulas, sort, mail merge, create budgets, etc.); and experience creating and reviewing budget documents and tracking expenditures.  Candidates should also have experience organizing and coordinating large meetings, events, conference calls, and webinars, as well as experience managing and organizing travel requests.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Demonstrated ability to accurately type on a typewriter or keyboard on a personal computer, computer terminal or work processor at a minimum of forty words per minute may be required, depending on the specific requirements of the position.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
