Main Purpose of Job
POSITION DUTIES
- Work with the Director and Deputy Director in an administrative capacity
- Work with the Director and Deputy Director in dealing with letters and contracts to retain the occupancy of public buildings, schools, and private locations for use as polling locations on Election Day
- Assist in ensuring all of the 43 Charles County polling places will be ready for use on Election Day and are opened and running by 7:00 am on Election Day
- Prepare polling place listing by ensuring all polling locations' addresses are updated and correct
- Handle Election Day inquires regarding any problems that occur throughout the day and night until all polls are closed and all supplies are returned back to the office or the warehouse
- Provide information to the Charles County payroll department regarding payment to Election Day Technicians for the service they provided after each election
- Perform secretarial duties and answer inquires regarding election laws and procedures by phone, email, and in person
- Ensure all Election Day Technicians are properly trained
- Assist with registering voters, assign voter district and precinct, check voter records for duplication, update voter history through MDvoters
- Scan Voter registration applications into MDvoters
- Enter information into automated and manual records and maintain filing systems
- Compiles and maintains statistics and notify voters of any changes
- Assist in the distribution, opening and processing of Absentee Ballots
- Assist in the process of Provisional Ballots by sorting them in precinct order, determining if they are rejected or accepted and enter them into MDvoters.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: Two years of experience applying election laws, rules and procedures in a local board of election office.
Notes:
1. Specialized clerical experience may substitute for the required experience applying election laws, rules and procedures in a local election office at the rate of one year for each six months of the required election office experience. Specialized clerical experience is defined as work in an office which requires reviewing, verifying and interpreting information in order to make determinations and resolve work problems in accordance with policies, regulations, guidelines and procedures.
2. General clerical experience may substitute for the required experience applying election laws, rules and procedures in a local election office at the rate of two years for each six months of the required election office experience. General clerical experience is defined as work performing a variety of clerical duties which are clear-cut and typically found in office settings, such as filing, copying, posting data and directing telephone calls.
3. College courses from an accredited college or university may be substituted for the required experience at the rate of 30 credit hours for one year of experience.
4. Additional experience applying election laws, rules and procedures in a local election office may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. Experience performing varied duties in a local election office during a presidential or gubernatorial election in the state of Maryland.
2. Experience training and guiding staff or experience reviewing the work of other staff in an organization.
3. Experience supervising co-workers and other staff.

1. Employees in this classification are required to be registered voters in the State of Maryland in accordance with the Election Law Article, Section 2-207(d).
2. Employees in this classification may not hold or be a candidate for any elective public or political party office or any other office created under the Constitution or laws of this State in accordance with the Election Law Article, Section 2-301(b).
