Introduction

This is a recruitment for two full-time contractual positions in St. Mary's County, MD.

LOCATION OF POSITION

St. Mary's County Department of Social Services. 

This agency currently has vacancies at two positions that will work out of one of the locations below:

   23110 Leonard Hall Drive, Leonardtown, MD 20650

   21775 Great Mills Road, Lexington Park, MD 20653

*St. Mary's County, Maryland is 95 miles southeast of Baltimore, 70 miles southeast of Annapolis and Washington, DC and 95 miles northeast of Richmond, Virginia.

Main Purpose of Job

Provide direct assistance to Temporary Cash Assistance (TCA) customers to attain stability and independence through employment services.

POSITION DUTIES

Position may interview and assess customers to determine occupational qualifications and skills, analyze prior work experience, degree of job readiness, education and vocational training, with particular emphasis on TCA customers on assistance more than 12 months;  may identify, develop and network with agency/community resources that will support customers in their ability to find and maintain employment; may solicit and build relationships with the business community to develop jobs for customers; may contact employers and customers as necessary; position will work as member of an interdisciplinary team and provide pre- and post-employment support services to the newly employed; may assist customers in meeting job commitments by removing barriers that result in non-compliance such as transportation for daycare, arrangements for medical certifications, working through alternative methods for transportation, etc.  Interacts with other team members to move individuals and families to self sufficiency.  Attends and participates in trainings to increased knowledge and effectiveness.  Attends and participates in agency and team meetings.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of 60 credit hours at an accredited college or university.

Experience: One year of experience in administrative or professional work.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute experience as defined above for the required education at the rate of one year of experience for 30 credit hours, for up to 60 credit hours of required education.

2. Candidates may substitute 90 credit hours at an accredited college or university for the required education and experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer involving staff work requiring regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting rules and regulations in accordance with agency laws and policies on a year to year basis for the required education and experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The preferred candidate will possess the following:

Bachelor's Degree in social and/or behavioral science.

Knowledge of welfare to work programs.

Strong written and oral communication skills.

Previous teaching experience or ability to work as part of a collaborative team.

LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION

Limited to candidates willing to work in St. Mary's County which is 85 miles southeast of Baltimore, 65 southeast of Annapolis and Washington, DC and 85 miles northeast of Richmond, Virginia.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who works for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program (the Program), have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents.  As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
