Introduction

This is a position specific recruitment for the Department of Natural Resources, Maryland Park Service. This recruitment will be used to fill current vacancies for the position and may be used to fill future vacancies in the same classification/function. Future vacancies may also be filled via other recruitments. The resulting eligible list will be maintained for one year.

LOCATION OF POSITION

Deep Creek Lake State Park, Swanton, MD (Garrett County)

Main Purpose of Job

The Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Maryland Park Service, is currently accepting applications for an Administrative Specialist II at Deep Creek Lake State Park located in Swanton, Maryland (Garrett County). This position provides assistance in the formulation and monitoring of the parks' operation budget. The incumbent prepares and processes park invoices and bank deposits, monitors expenditures, corporate card purchases and encumbrances and maintains park files. This position also reconciles revenue, operates a cash register for sales and tracks inventories. This position makes recommendations concerning operational needs and priorities and responds to inquiries from the public and park staff.

In the area of customer service, the incumbent is responsible for providing current information to customers on park policies, regulations and service charges. The selected candidate will also be responsible for distributing mail and maintaining office files, compiling statistical data to include visitation figures and mileage forms, preparing seasonal contracts and purchasing office supplies for park staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of 60 credit hours at an accredited college or university.

Experience: One year of experience in administrative or professional work.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute experience as defined above for the required education at the rate of one year of experience for 30 credit hours, for up to 60 credit hours of required education.

2. Candidates may substitute 90 credit hours at an accredited college or university for the required education and experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer involving staff work requiring regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting rules and regulations in accordance with agency laws and policies on a year-for-year basis for the required education and experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Strong preference will be given to applicants that possess the following.  Include clear and specific information on your application regarding the qualification(s).

• Proficient in the use of computers using standard office software: Quicken, Word, Excel, Power Point.

• Ability to prepare and present reports.

• Knowledge of basic statistical procedures and techniques.

• Working knowledge of reference and research methods and techniques used in collecting, compiling and organizing data and information.

• Strong organizational and verbal skills.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
