Introduction

This recruitment is limited to current employees of the Maryland Department of Juvenile Services only

By law, DJS is a child-serving agency responsible for assessing the individual needs of referred youth and providing intake, detention, probation, commitment and after-care services. DJS collaborates with youth, families, schools, community partners, law enforcement and other public agencies to coordinate services and resources to contribute to safer communities.

Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this Administrator and Program Director position is for all activities of the food service operation at the four(4) Youth Centers in Western Maryland including food procurement using FMIS, scheduling cooks, supervising Lead Cooks, ordering food, hiring and onboarding for new employees. This position supports the mission of the agency by providing safe, nutritious and appetizing meals and snacks for youth housed at Green Ridge Youth Center, Meadow Mountain Youth Center, Savage Mountain Youth Center and Backbone Mountain Youth Center.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: One year (I), two years (II), four years (III), and five years (IV) of experience managing large-scale food service operations in an institutional, commercial, industrial or similar organization.

Notes:

1. Additional experience supervising in a large-scale food service operation may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for up to four years of the required education.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Food Services Officers classifications or Food Services Manager and Services Officer specialty codes in the food service management field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience working with procurement using FMIS is highly desired

Experience working with the State Procurement Regulation is highly preferred

Experience implementing Federal Child Nutrition standards is highly preferred
