Main Purpose of Job

A Maintenance Chief IV is a supervisory position that provides direct oversight of daily building maintenance and operations.

POSITION DUTIES

The Maintenance Chief IV will be responsible for the construction, installation, alterations, renovations, preventive maintenance, repairs, and snow removal at the Thomas J.S. Waxter Children's Center of the Maryland Dept. of Juvenile Services. The incumbent will be responsible for the daily uninterrupted operation of heating, air conditioning, lighting, sanitation, and all other institutional equipment and systems. The Maintenance Chief IV will supervise building maintenance personnel and outside contractors who perform maintenance of the facilities; including ensuring compliance with health, safety, and building codes.  

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of eighth grade.

Experience: Five years experience in the building maintenence or building construction trades including four years of responsibility for assigning, reviewing and approving the work of other building maintenance or building construction workers.

Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher, as a non-commissioned officer in utilities classifications or mechanical maintenance management specialty codes in utility systems repair, on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates who possess a trade license and/or certification in one of the following trades are preferred: Carpentry, electrical/electrician, building/facility maintenance, HVAC, painting, or plumbing

LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION

Candidates must be willing to work an On Call work schedule that requires 24 hours/7days a week availability, including weekends and holidays.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates for positions in the licensed option must possess and maintain a current Maryland First Grade Stationary Engineer License from the Board of Examining Engineers and must list the license number and date on the application.

2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
