The purpose of the position is to provide supervision, management and leadership of base wide energy management and mechanical systems. Selected applicant will become the Subject Matter Expert (SME) on all information regarding mechanical systems and reoccurring work related to the effective/efficient maintenance of system components.

Troubleshoots, maintains, inspects, modifies and repairs heating, ventilation systems, air conditioning and refrigeration systems and equipment including DX and hydronic systems and components, chillers, VAV boxes, fans and fan motors, pumps and pump motors, electric controls and associated safety, overcurrent and other equipment protection devices.

Monitors work done by outside contractors.

Evaluates preliminary mechanical design plans and specs.

Writes, debugs, codes analyzes and enhances programs to balance energy management with comfort control.

Prepares documentation and control flow charts.

Monitors and adjusts computer based EMS program for proper HVAC comfort and energy management control.

Education: Completion of eighth grade.

Experience: Six years experience in licensed stationary engineering including five years of responsibility assigning, reviewing, and approving the work of others and disciplining, evaluating the performance of and recommending the hiring, firing and promoting of others.

Note:  Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher as a non-commissioned officer in utilities classifications or mechanical maintenance specialty codes in any combination of maintenance trades on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

1.    Candidates for positions in the licensed option must possess and maintain a current Maryland First Grade Stationary Engineer License from the Board of Examining Engineers.

 2.   Candidates for this position must have a universal CFC license.

 3.   Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
