The Land Management Administration, Certification/Registration, Hazardous Waste Certification/Manifest Section is recruiting for an Administrative Specialist III. This is a position specific recruitment for the Maryland Department of the Environment. This recruitment will be used to fill current and future vacancies for this position/function only. The resulting cert list will be maintained for one year. Persons interested in future vacancies within this classification must re-apply.

Main Purpose of Job
The main purpose of this position is to provide administrative support to the Section Head and staff of the Hazardous Waste Certifications/Manifests Section. The incumbent in this position will be responsible for tracking, reviewing, issuing and entering EPA ID numbers, Special Medical Waste ID numbers, Biennial Hazardous Waste Reports and manifests in TEMPO and RCRA Info database. In addition, this position will provide backup administrative support for tracking, reviewing and issuing Provisional EPA ID numbers, Controlled Hazardous Waste and Special Medical Waste Hauler/Vehicle certifications.
Education: Completion of 60 credit hours at an accredited college or university.
Experience: Two years of experience in administrative or professional work.
1. Candidates may substitute experience as defined above at the rate of one year experience for 30 credit hours of education for up to 60 credit hours of the required education.
2. Candidates may substitute a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university for the required education and experience.
3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer involving staff work requiring regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting rules and regulations in accordance with agency laws and policies on a year to year basis for the required education and experience.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
It is preferred that the selected candidate has the following:
Experience in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access);
Excellent Customer Service Skills;
Ability to Multi-task;
Ability to work as a team player;
Ability to work with minimal supervision.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS
The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
