Main Purpose of Job
POSITION DUTIES
Supervises the assignment and conduct of on-site safety hazard surveys, safety and health program assessments, and other related interventions of a technical and specialized nature involving equipment, machinery, and operations in general industry, construction, and agriculture to ensure they are performed in accordance with established State and Federal policies and procedures. Reviews survey reports written by safety consultants to ensure they are complete and accurate. Participates in the conduct of complex on-site safety surveys to ensure they are accomplished in a competent and professional manner. Coordinates consultation visits required under Maryland Commission on Correctional Standards regulations when conducted by MOSH consultants.
Note: This position is not responsible for reviewing the technical portion of surveys/reports for the OSH Compliance Hygienists.
Provides guidance and technical advise to safety consultants, routinely assesses their work progress, identifies their training and professional development needs, and provides training where feasible, to ensure they are familiar with agency policies and procedures, occupational safety and health standards, hazard survey techniques, and report preparation. Performs routine on the job evaluations of safety consultants, and conducts bi-annual performance evaluations.
Acts on behalf of the project manager in his/her absence.
Oversees activities relating to promotional campaign by identifying potential clients, ensuring timely mailings, and (when needed) coordinating door-to-door visits, and telephone solicitations. To ensure timely hazard correction, performs reminder calls before correction notification is due from clients, and oversees calls and the mailing of dunning letters to overdue clients. Oversees the Consultation Unit’s activities relating to the DLLR customer satisfaction survey.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: Four years of experience in the inspection of work places to ensure compliance and initiate enforcement of state and federal occupational safety and health laws, regulations and standards
Notes:
1. Additional experience in the interpretation and application of fire, health or safety regulations and the preparation of narrative reports documenting factual findings of inspections or investigations may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
2. Thirty semester credit hours to include twelve credit hours in construction, engineering, fire, manufacturing or occupational safety and health technologies may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
