Main Purpose of Job

The victim services coordinator acts as the link to services for those victims who may qualify for compensation but still need additional services. At the direction of the Executive Director this position will work with, the current victim services coordinator who supervises all the victim advocacy related functions of the agency.

POSITION DUTIES

Conducts training and outreach for the agency on victim compensation in Maryland.

Meets with advocates statewide to promote the agency. Looks for new avenues to promote compensation to victims, victim advocates, criminal justice professionals and others with whom victims come in contact.

Promotes the agency through media as needed.

Provide limited case management, grief support and crisis intervention/support.

Assist claims examiners with difficult telephone calls where people are angry about their claims.

Work on specialized projects.

Independently maintains notes on actions taken to assist victim claimants.

Responsible for grant reports.

Must possess up-to-date knowledge of all changes in victim advocacy in general and in the state of Maryland.

Also to keep the Executive Director and other agency staff members up to date on these issues as well.

Provide support services for claimants who need advocacy. Locate resources for claimants.

Accompany them to appointments if necessary.

Contact and confirm competency of local, statewide and national resources before giving them to claimants.

Recruit, train and supervise interns.

Recruitment of college interns to assist with various victim services for Criminal Injuries Compensation Board (CICB). Train the interns on CCVC, victim services and research projects as needed.

Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university.

Experience: Three years experience in administrative or professional work.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute additional experience in administrative staff or professional work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Candidates may substitute additional graduate level education at an accredited college or university at the rate of 30 semester credit hours for each year of the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work that included the regular independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting complex administrative plans, policies, rules or regulations or analysis of operational programs or procedures with recommendations for improvement on a year to year basis for the required education and experience.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

EXAMINATION PROCESS

The examination will consist of a rating of your education, training, and experience as presented on your application and as they relate to the requirements of the position. Therefore, it is important that you provide complete and accurate information on your application. Successful candidates will be ranked as Best Qualified, Better Qualified, or Qualified and placed on the employment (eligible) list for at least one year.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who works for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program (the Program), have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents.  As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
