Applications are currently being accepted for Seasonal Hourly Employment in the Maryland Department of Agriculture Mosquito Control Program.

This contractual employment and employees will be paid for actual hours worked only.

LOCATION OF POSITION

Anne Arundel and Prince George's Counties.

Main Purpose of Job

This is seasonal employment in the Maryland Department of Agriculture to assist in the surveillance and control of mosquito population in Maryland. Work involves: handling, mixing and applying pesticides; mosquito collection, field inspection; mosquito surveillance.

POSITION DUTIES

HOURLY PAY RATES ARE AS FOLLOWS:

  • Field Technicians: $11.00 - $13.75

JOB DUTIES MAY INCLUDE:

  • Handling, mixing and applying pesticides.
  • Mosquito Collection
  • Field Inspection
  • Record Keeping
  • Supervision                                                                                                              

Involves contact with the public, exposure to biting/stinging insects, ticks, poison ivy, pesticides, extensive walking in the suburban, wooded and wetland areas, and driving spray truck. Employees may be required to wear protective equipment. Some shifts involve working evenings and early morning hours.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

18 for Technicians years if age.

High School Diploma or GED required for Technicians.

Technicians must possess a driver's license valid in Maryland, with no more than 5 points on driving record.

Valid driver's license required, with no more than 5 points on driving record.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program (the Program), have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents.  As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
