LOCATION OF POSITION

Assateague State Park, Berlin, Maryland (Worcester County)

Main Purpose of Job

The Department of Natural Resources, Maryland Park Service, is currently accepting applications for two (2) full-time seasonal contractual Park Maintenance Technician positions. These positions are responsible for the maintenance of grounds, facilities and equipment at Assateague State Park including campground, Day Use area, marina, headquarters/shop complex and all associated buildings and grounds. Work is performed indoors and outdoors under various weather conditions. The positions are responsible for grounds-keeping/lawn care, vehicle repair and maintenance, road maintenance and sand removal, and may include carpentry, masonry, plumbing, electrical work, construction, and operation of specialized tools. These positions will also involve completing various projects including building repairs and renovations, event preparation and cleanup, trails maintenance, painting, or other assigned projects. Applicants must be available to work weekends and holidays. Applicants must be able to lift 50lbs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: None.

Experience: None.    

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience with lawn equipment, hand tools, power tools, carpentry, plumbing, basic electrical, chainsaw, minor equipment maintenance and repair, or heavy equipment experience is preferred.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Persons appointed to positions in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program (the Program), have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.

Leave may be granted to a temporary/contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
