FOREST PEST MANAGEMENT FIELD TECHNICIAN

Introduction

Applications are currently being accepted for Seasonal Hourly Employment in the Maryland Department of Agriculture Forest Pest Management Program.

This contractual employment and employees will be paid for actual hours worked only.

LOCATION OF POSITION

Work will be in forested and urban areas located in Frederick, Allegany and Harford Counties.

Each applicant must indicate each County in which you are available to work on the application.

Main Purpose of Job

To assist with the spring and fall hemlock woolly adelgid suppression activities, fall gypsy moth egg mass surveys, and other forest pest projects.

POSITION DUTIES

Working with the public and recording data.

Work may involve: exposure to insects, ticks, poison ivy and forest and urban animals;

Lengthy hikes, working in steep and rocky areas, carrying packs, supplies and equipment;

Overnight travel may be required, for up to a week at a time.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High School Diploma or GED. Each candidate must be 18 years of age and possess a driver's license valid in Maryland, with no more than 5 points on driving record.

Valid driver's license required, with no more than 5 points on driving record.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who works for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program (the Program), have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents.  As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
