Main Purpose of Job
An Environmental Health Specialist Trainee is the entry level of work at a local health department. The main purpose of the Environmental Sanitarian Trainee position is to assist in the promotion of all aspects of Environmental Health while enforcing all applicable State and Local Environmental Health laws and regulations. This position will learn to conduct inspections, as assigned, during the installation of on-site sewage disposal systems to ensure compliance with the construction specifications of the Talbot County Health Department. This requires documentation of inspection as well as providing a detailed accurate as built sketch of system installation. This position will also assist with the conduction of soil evaluations on properties as directed by a supervisor, to determine the suitability for on-site sewage disposal systems.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Determined by the Maryland Board of Environmental Health Specialists under the licensing requirements for Environmental Health Specialists.
Experience: None.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
1. Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a certificate of eligibility to be licensed as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist from the Maryland Board of Environmental Health Specialists. A copy of your certificate must be attached to your application.
2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

BENEFITS
Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program (the Program), have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
