Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to be accountable and responsible for the final disposition of all unclaimed property. The position is also fully responsible for the Maryland State Police Property Unit master property record control, quarterly inventory verification, disposition of all monies submitted to the Department's Property Unit, processing all claims for monies and disbursement of forfeited monies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a State high school equivalence certificate.

Experience: Four years of experience in the disposal of surplus equipment, materials and supplies.

Notes:

1. Education at an accredited college or university may be substituted at the rate of 30 semester credit hours for each year of experience, for up to 2 years of the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Supply and Logistics classifications or Supply and Materials Control and Management specialty codes in the supply field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.  

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience:

1.  Experience dealing with the disposal and inventory control of property at any governmental level

2.  Experience with proprietary inventory databases

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties may be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Candidates will be subject to a complete criminal background investigation to include a polygraph examination before appointment can be made.  A criminal conviction may be grounds for rejection of the candidate.

Some positions in this classification are assigned duties which require the individual to be examined by a physician after an offer of employment, applicants for such positions will be given a medical examination to certify the ability to perform the essential job functions.

SELECTION PROCESS

Only candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will be considered for this classification.  Successful candidates will be placed on an eligible list in the BEST, BETTER or QUALIFIED category.  The list will be used by the hiring manager to select the individual to fill the vacancy.  The list will be valid for one year.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
