POSITION DUTIES

The Comptroller of Maryland, Field Enforcement Division is recruiting for the position of Administrator I- Cooperative Fuel Research (CFR) Engine Laboratory Technician, to work in the Motor Fuel Testing Lab located in Jessup, Maryland.

The incumbent of this position will perform maintenance and major repairs on CFR Engines and laboratory equipment. The incumbent will routinely operate CFR engines and other laboratory instruments by conducting various motor fuel tests in accordance with ASTM standards and methods to ensure compliance with Maryland and Federal motor fuel requirements.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Four years of experience in administrative staff or professional work.

NOTES:

  1. Additional experience in administrative staff or professional work may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
  2. Additional graduate level education at an accredited college or university may be substituted at the rate of 30 semester credit hours on a year to year basis for the required general experience.
  3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work related to the administration of rules, regulations, policy, procedures and processes, or overseeing or coordinating unit operations or functioning as a staff assistant to a higher ranking commissioned officer on a year to year basis for the required education and experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Two years of experience as a CFR Engine Operator performing tests and major repair work on CFR Engines, or two years of experience as an Aviation Mechanic.
  • Experience with “Factory Trained” status in Compass Instruments CFR Product Training/Crankcase Overhaul course (Or similar course from other recognized technical CFR Engine training facility).
  • Successful completion of a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or other closely related major from an accredited college or university.
  • Graduation from a Federal Aviation Administration’s Part 147 Aviation Maintenance Technician School.
  • U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in the Aviation Machinist Mate classification or Aviation, Aerospace Maintenance, or Aircraft Maintenance specialty codes in the Aviation Maintenance field of work.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

  1. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle.
  2. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

EXAMINATION PROCESS

Due to the nature of this list, all qualified applicants are placed on an unranked list of candidates and will remain active on this list for at least one year.  

Qualifying applicants are subject to an oral interview. Prior to appointment, the employee must successfully undergo a comprehensive background investigation including a review of criminal, MVA and tax records; and determination of legal authorization to work in the United States or under the United States Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986. Upon initial appointment OR promotion to a position in the State Personnel Management System, an employee is required to serve an initial six month probationary period. This probationary period may be extended an additional six months under certain circumstances at the discretion of the appointing authority.
