Introduction

This is a position specific recruitment for the Department of Natural Resources, Maryland Park Service. This recruitment will be used to fill current vacancies for the position and may be used to fill future vacancies in the same classification/function. Future vacancies may also be filled via other recruitments. The resulting eligible list will be maintained for one year.

Main Purpose of Job

The Department of Natural Resources, Maryland Park Service, is currently accepting applications for an Administrator III that will serve as the Business and Marketing Manager and lead efforts to develop and implement marketing and park business management initiatives within the Maryland Park system. This position will be based in the Maryland Park Service headquarters office in Annapolis, Maryland. The Business and Marketing Manager develops and implements an annual public relations and marketing strategy for all state parks working within established budgetary constraints. Duties include but are not limited to: development of new signature events and improvement of existing park events; development of public-private partnerships to help deliver State Park services and generate revenue; development of corporate sponsorships; management and analysis of the State Park Reservation system to maximize revenue strategies and implement marketing initiatives; and development of cost-recovery enhancement business plans for State Park operations. This position functions in a statewide capacity, requiring travel and occasional overnight stays.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

For education obtained outside of the United States (U.S.), you will be required to provide proof of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service. If you possess a degree obtained outside of the U.S., please submit a detailed, course-by-course evaluation report from one of the U.S. equivalency evaluating members identified at http://www.naces.org/members.html with the application.

Education: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Five years of experience in administrative staff or professional work. One year of this experience must have involved one or more of the following: the supervision of other employees, overseeing and coordinating the general operations of a unit, applying rules and regulations, or exercising responsibility for the development of policies or procedures.

Notes:

1. Additional experience in administrative staff or professional work may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Additional graduate level education at an accredited college or university may be substituted at the rate of 30 semester credit hours on a year to year basis for the required general experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work related to the administration of rules, regulations, policy, procedures and processes, or overseeing or coordinating unit operations or functioning as a staff assistant to a higher ranking commissioned officer on a year to year basis for the required education and experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Strong preference will be given to applicants that possess the following.  Include clear and specific information on your application regarding the qualification(s).

• A Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Tourism, Hospitality, or a major with a key focus on Marketing, Sales and/or Tourism.
• Five years of experience managing multiple projects and events.

 

The selected candidate should have experience and be able to demonstrate success in the following areas:

• Understanding and ability to build brand equity and successfully increase revenue through creation and implementation of events.

• Exceptional business writing skills and abilities to convey messages in print, social media and website platforms.

• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

• Capable of understanding all aspects of Maryland State Parks and developing a marketing strategy.

• Ability to stay on top of key industry trends, competitive insights and emerging social media opportunities.

 • Ability to collect and analyze financial data and develop recommendations to strengthen fiscal sustainability.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
