LOCATION OF POSITION
Main Purpose of Job
The Department of Natural Resources, Natural Resources Police is currently accepting applications at the Police Communications Operator I level for one (1) vacancy located at the Sandy Point State Park Office in Annapolis, Maryland. The main purpose of a Police Communications Operator is to facilitate officer safety by monitoring police radio transmissions, utilizing all communications equipment and simultaneously performing multiple tasks often under extremely stressful conditions in difficult law enforcement situations.
The essential job functions of these positions include monitoring and communicating with law enforcement and other public safety personnel via two-way multi-channel radios and maintaining documentation of same; utilizing computer systems to obtain and disseminate vital information; and interacting with other Departmental personnel, allied agencies and the general public.
Please note, these positions require rotating shift work. They also require working on weekends and holidays as determined by the work schedule.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a State high school equivalence certificate.
Experience: None.
Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Operations Specialist classifications or Signal Corps, Cyberspace Support, or Communications specialty codes in the communications field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Strong preference will be given to applicants that possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding the qualifications.
1) One year of dispatching experience in a 911 (police/emergency) services environment utilizing a CAD (computer aided dispatch) system.
2) One year of experience in a multi-faceted work environment using data entry keyboard functions and a multi-line telephone system.
3) A combination of one year of emergency dispatch training, education and/or experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
1) Applicants may be subject to an extensive background investigation prior to appointment.
