Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to supervise the health benefits and sick leave usage and to function as the Disability Retirement Coordinator within the Medical Services Section of the Human Resources Division. The position is also responsible for reviewing, processing and recommending approval or disapproval of all medical leave benefit requests submitted by all Maryland State Police sworn and civilian personnel. The position also serves as the ADA Coordinator.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university.

Experience: One (I) year experience in administrative or professional work.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute additional experience in administrative staff or professional work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Candidates may substitute additional graduate level education at an accredited college or university at the rate of 30 semester credit hours for each year of the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work that included regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting complex administrative plans, policies, rules or regulations or analysis of operational programs or procedures with recommendations for improvement on a year-for-year basis for the required education and experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1.  Experience with Administrative/Accident Leave; Leave Bank and Donation Program; Leave of Absence without Pay; Disability Retirement; FMLA; and ADA

2.  Supervisory Experience

3.  Experience with Microsoft Excel

LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION

This is an internal recruitment restricted to current, full-time permanent and contractual State of Maryland employees and employees working by contract with the state.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Candidates are subject to a complete criminal background investigation to include a polygraph examination before permanent appointment can be made.  A criminal conviction may be grounds for rejection of the candidate.

SELECTION PROCESS

The selection process for this recruitment will involve a review of each application.  Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be placed on an eligible list in the BEST, BETTER or QUALIFIED category.  The eligible list will be used by the hiring manager to select the individual to fill the vacancy.  The list will be valid for one year.
