Main Purpose of Job
A Coordinator Special Programs Health Services I is the entry level of work coordinating programs in the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. The main purpose of this position will provide coordination of community services to eligible individuals with Developmental Disabilities who reside in Cecil County. This position will assist in the completion of comprehensive assessments which are used to determine eligibility for Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA) Services. For eligible individuals, Coordinators provide referrals for services, facilitate access to day/residential/support services, facilitate the development of the annual Individual Plan, monitor individuals on the Waiting List, and assist in transition planning. These efforts work to maintain the individual in the community and to promote individual choice and overall quality of life.
Education: Possession of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in nursing, social work, psychology, education, counseling or a related field.
1. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in another field plus one year of professional experience in health services may be substituted for the specific degree.
2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Health Care Administration classifications or Civil Affairs Specialist specialty codes in the health related field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program (the Program), have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
