Main Purpose of Job
A Coordinator Special Programs Health Services I is the entry level of work coordinating programs in the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. The main purpose of this position is to assist the individual with developing a person-centered plan. This position provides monitoring of services and advocacy on behalf of eligible individuals with developmental disabilities, assists individuals and families to access entry into the Developmental Disabilities Administration system, is responsible for making recommendations of eligibility (or ineligibility) and ranking in terms of severity of situation and priority of service to the Program Manager.
Education: Possession of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in nursing, social work, psychology, education, counseling or a related field.
1. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in another field plus one year of professional experience in health services may be substituted for the specific degree.
2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Health Care Administration classifications or Civil Affairs Specialist specialty codes in the health related field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program (the Program), have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
