LOCATION OF POSITION

Main Purpose of Job

A Correctional Case Management Specialist Trainee (CCMST) is the entry level work assessing, screening and evaluating the personal and criminal history of adult inmates in order to recommend a security level, appropriate work and program assignments, suitability for parole, institutional transfer, restoration of forfeited diminution credits, community access programs, and other issues necessary to public safety and security and control of the institution.

POSITION DUTIES

  • Learns to evaluate criminal histories, interview inmates, review base files and review computer generated information.
  • In a thorough and timely manner, learns to prepare individual case plans, parole recommendations, case management actions, screening forms, correspondence and statistical reports in accordance with applicable laws and agency directives
  • Learns to provide case management orientation to newly arrived inmates in accordance with agency guidelines to ensure inmates are made aware of case management process
  • Learns to participate in parole hearings conducted by the Maryland Parole Commission for the purpose of providing information in accordance with applicable agency guidelines
  • Performs all position specific and related duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: None

Note: The above educational requirement is set by the Correctional Training Commission in accordance with Title 12, Subtitle 10 of the Code of Maryland Regulations.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Employees who have not already done so must meet the required selection standards and successfully complete the training prescribed by the Correctional Training Commission for a correctional classification counselor. Selection standards for correctional training are listed in detail in the Code of Maryland Regulations 12.10.09 and include the following:

U.S Citizenship or Resident Alien status
Must be at least 21 years of age
A completed background investigation
Oral interview
Physical examination.

2. Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.

EXAMINATION PROCESS

THIS RECRUITMENT REQUIRES THE SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF A WRITTEN EXAMINATION: The written examination is designed to measure the candidates’ knowledge, skills, and abilities as they relate to the duties of this job classification. Only candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will be admitted to the examination for this classification. Therefore, it is essential that you give complete accurate information on your application. Successful candidates will be placed on the employment list categorized as BEST QUALIFIED, BETTER QUALIFIED, OR QUALIFIED and placed on the employment (eligible) list for at least one year.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
