Main Purpose of Job

Nutritionist I has the responsibility for the provision of clinical nutritional service to inmates and provision of training correctional staff. Employees receive managerial supervision from a Correctional Dietary Regional Manager or Administrative Official. Work is performed in a correctional Institution/facility.

POSITION DUTIES

Interpret physicians’ prescriptions for modified diet plans, complete nutritional assessments, coordinate meal and drug administration schedules to prevent food and drug interactions and consult with medical and other professions concerning inmates’ needs and food habits.

Participate in menu planning and nutritional analysis. Prepares menu approval/certification for the various correctional facilities in the Jessup region on an annual basis.

Conduct training sessions on nutritional standards and dietetic practice for staff assigned to the food service program.

Assist with the development, and implementation of food service in accordance with regulations and directives. Inspect and evaluate the intuitions food service programs to ensure compliance to MCCS Standards all regulatory agencies.

Monitors audit documents, Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) requirements, as established by the Health Department, prepare corrective action plans and develop procedures to address established policies as indicated.

Perform other related duties.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Determined by the Maryland State Board of Dietetic Practice under the licensing requirements for Nutritionists and Dietitians.

Experience: One year of experience providing professional nutrition or dietetic services.

Note:  1. A Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Public Health, Community Health or Nutrition may be substituted for the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Dietitian and Nutritionist classification or Dietitian and Nutritionist specialty codes in the Dietitian field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.   

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as a Dietitian/Nutritionist from the Maryland State Board of Dietetic Practice, 4201 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215 prior to permanent appointment.

2. Employees in the classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

EXAMINATION PROCESS

All persons who meet the minimum selective qualification will be approved on the certification list and will be placed on the employment (eligible) list for at least one year.
