Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of the position is to assure the quality of crime information and arrest data, adhering to the National Uniform Crime Report (UCR) and Maryland UCR standards and to provide competent field assistance to police, judicial and correctional officers in their use and interpretation of UCR findings for management purposes. In addition, the position assists in training, corrects record keeping problems, auditing and reporting procedure deficiencies statewide.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   Completion of at least 60 credit hours at an accredited college or university.

Experience:  Two years of experience as a sworn police officer in a state, federal, county or municipal police force.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1.  Training/teaching experience

2.  Experience utilizing UCR information

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle.

Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Applicants are subject to a complete criminal background investigation before permanent appointment can be made. 

A criminal conviction may be grounds for rejection of the candidate.

SELECTION PROCESS

The selection process for this recruitment will involve a review of each application.  Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be placed on an eligible list in the BEST, BETTER or QUALIFIED category.  The list will be used by the hiring manager to select the individual to fill the vacancy.  The list will be valid for one year.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
