Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to administer, coordinate, and continuously evaluate housekeeping services and procedures at Deer's Head Center.  Deer's Head Center is a 66-bed chronic disease hospital, 80-bed Comprehensive Care Unit, 24-station Kidney Dialysis Unit, and Coastal Hospice, an inpatient hospice unit. This position will: plan, oversee and coordinate housekeeping functions within the inpatient, administrative and treatment areas; monitor staff competency, work performance and productivity; monitor infection control practices; maintain compliance with federal and state licensing and accreditation standards; monitor supply needs and usage, initiating replacement of inventory; inspect and maintain equipment, coordinating preventive maintenance and required repair services; plan and maintain department's budget for position control, equipment and contracts; monitor contractor's compliance with job specifications and results; evaluate and revise policies and procedures to comply with standards of practice and performance; and, participate in committee and team meetings.  This position will supervise a Housekeeping Supervisor position and indirectly supervise Buildings and Grounds Workers.  This position will also conduct environmental rounds of buildings and grounds with Safety Officer for compliance with federal, state and regulatory safety standards and monitor, collect, weigh, package and ship biohazardous waste.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: One (1) year of experience supervising housekeeping and custodial activities at a large State institution or two (2) years of experience supervising housekeeping and custodial activities at a small or medium sized State institution.   OR  

Eight (8) years full-time experience or its equivalent in a large scale housekeeping operation at a school, hospital, hotel, or other institution, four (4) years of which must have been in a supervisory capacity.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Employees in this classification may be required to work on weekends and holidays based on staffing needs. Employees required to work on those days will receive compensatory time off on other days. 2. Employees in this classification may be required to live on the grounds of the institution or agency where assigned.
