Main Purpose of Job

The focus of this position will be healthcare associated infections (HAI) activities conducted under the auspices of two federal cooperative agreements: the Maryland Emerging Infections Program (EIP) and the Maryland Epidemiology and Laboratory Capacity for Infectious Diseases cooperative agreement (ELC). This position will be responsible for participating in a hospital and long term care facility point prevalence survey of healthcare associated infections (HAI), Clostridium difficile surveillance, Multidrug-resistant Gram-negative bacilli Surveillance Initiative (MuGSI), and other HAI surveillance innovations projects, which will be conducted in collaboration with the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), other EIP sites, and other partners. This position will also be involved in supporting the Multi-drug Resistant Organisms (MDRO) surveillance and prevention, as well as in the implementation of antimicrobial stewardship activities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Master’s degree in the field of Public Health from an accredited college or university with a minimum of three graduate courses in Epidemiology and one graduate course in Biostatistics.  A copy of your graduate transcripts should accompany your application.

Experience: None.

Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Health Care Science  classifications or Clinical Lab, Medical Scientists, or Bio Medical Lab Officer specialty codes in the health research field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required. 

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The successful applicant must have strong verbal and written communication skills, excellent organizational and project management skills, skills using database and analytic software; experience/knowledge about healthcare associated infections and antibiotic stewardship is preferred.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
