Main Purpose of Job

A Commitment Records Specialist Supervisor is responsible for reviewing, verifying and interpreting information in order to make determinations to resolve problems involving the calculations of adult inmates prison sentences in accordance with State Laws as it relates to policies of the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services. This position ensures the proper terms of confinement and release date of inmates are in accordance with applicable laws and regulations. Employees in this classification supervise lower-level Commitment Records Specialist. Employees are subject to call-in 24 hours a day.

POSITION DUTIES

  • Plans, coordinates, train, resolve problems, evaluate and supervise the staff and work of the Commitment Records Unit for the purpose of ensuring that the work of the unit is performed in accordance with agency requirements by using standard operating procedures. ·        
  •  Delegates various tasks in order to:   
    • Establish and verify inmate’s term of confinement based on court orders and other legal documents   
    • Determine proper credits to apply to inmate’s sentence
    • Establish manual or electronic database commitment records/files by using standard operating procedures and agency directives       
  • Certifies and signs mandatory supervision release certificates prior to release of inmate, in order to confirm established release date of inmate by using applicable laws and agency directives

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Three years of experience in reviewing, verifying, and interpreting information in order to make determinations and resolve problems involving the calculation of prison sentences in accordance with applicable laws, and the regulations and policies of the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services. One year of this experience must be in leading the work of Commitment Records staff.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this classification are subject to call-in 24 hours a day and may be required to provide the employing agency with a telephone number where the employee can be reached.
