Main Purpose of Job

The DDA is to assume lead worker responsibilities for Direct Care Assistants and to assist the Case / Home Life Manager in the operations of the residence/residences. This position relates information to staff as directed by the charge nurse or Manager. This position supports Case Management activities for individuals living in the residence by execution of the Individual Habilitation Plan (IHP)/Plan of Care (POC). The DDA is required to understand all elements of training. This position involves evaluating direct care staff in training and instructing them according to the training procedures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of 60 credit hours from an accredited college or university with 15 credit hours in health or human services, education or the behavioral sciences.

Experience: One year of experience providing direct client services in a developmental disability or similar behavior modification setting.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute an Associate of Arts or Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a specialization in the treatment of developmental disabilities in a mental health or closely related curriculum including a supervised clinical practicum in a developmental disability or similar behavior modification setting for the required education and experience.

2. Candidates may substitute additional experience providing rehabilitation services in a developmental disability setting at the rate of one year of experience for 30 credit hours of education.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Hospital Corpsman classifications or Health Care Specialist and Medical Services specialty codes in the health related field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.  

LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION

Limited to candidates willing to work in Salisbury, MD.  Salisbury is located on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, 2 1/2 hours east of Washington, D.C., 2 hours southeast of Baltimore, MD, and 3 hours south of Philadelphia, PA.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current certificate as a Nursing Assistant from the Maryland State Board of Nursing, 4140 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215. 2. Employees in this classification may be required to successfully complete training and maintain current certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this classification are subject to call-in 24 hours a day and, therefore, will be required to provide the employing agency with a telephone number where they can be reached.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
